Laburnum Pollard

Select: #1   #2

In the spring of 2007, I was fortunate enough to be given a piece of a Laburnum pollard. When I cut it into blanks I saw that the figure and colour of the wood was so incredible that I had to create simple forms that would best show these qualities.

The two final pieces were a bowl and a vase (the hollow of the bowl being forced by the deep rot in one end of the log).

The wood in these pieces makes them suitable to stand alone as Nature’s works of art but they could equally end up as exquisite ‘usable’ pieces.
