Reconstruction

Select: #1   #2   #3

The basis for this series came to me after a piece that I had made in green wood split nearly in half during the drying process. I felt that nature was pulling the piece apart and that my human intervention could either fully break it or could bring it back together.

After the initial thought I experimented with various techniques to ‘destroy’ the basic work; boiling and soaking; heating in conventional and microwave ovens; burning and freezing; compressing and stretching; the list goes on… Once I had destroyed the piece I had to reconstruct it and decided that the clinical, dead nature of steel would perfectly contra the warm, living wood.
