Ripples #4

Ripples 4

The spalting* of the beech gives a very delicate pattern similar to the surface of brackish water.

This delicacy is contrasted against the hard external shape, the sharp splash and the spiked droplet of the piece.

Only observers who trouble to pick up the piece will discover the two ripples hidden on the base.

*Spalting is the production of black lines through the wood together with patches that are lighter than its natural colouration. It is caused by fungal infestation, and is essentially the onset of rot. The seasoning process kills the fungus and leaves us with wonderful patterns.

Material: Spalted Beech
Size: 3" x 9" (7.5cmx23cm)
