Ripples #6

Ripples 6

The final piece of the series is a move towards clear geometric lines.

I chose to use Elm for this piece because of the obvious grain structure.

The figuring in certain light has an iridescent quality which I needed to react with the concentric groove ripple pattern.

Although this piece has flat definite lines and the grooves representing the ripples are evenly spaced and of standard depth, it was designed to fool the eye.

The inward slant of the face works with the clean pattern of the grooves and the irregular figuring of the Elm to create an almost hypnotic illusion of movement.

Material: Elm
Size: 3" x 10" (7.5cmx25cm)
